Anitra is the Chief Operating Officer of Perth based medical technology company, Surgical Realities Pty Ltd. Since graduating from Edith Cowan University (ECU) with a double degree in Communications in 2004, Anitra has spent 12 years in change management and project communications roles within the diamonds, coal and iron ore product groups of mining company, Rio Tinto. Anitra’s passion for human – technology integration was sparked in 2013 whilst working with the Mine of the Future® project team, introducing autonomous haul trucks and drills into the Pilbara mining operations.

She is now finalising her double degree in Science (Psychology) at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and is heavily involved in the research and development of virtual and augmented reality technologies and neuropsychology to help health professionals manage conditions such as anxiety and pain. Anitra is collaborating with Western Australian hospitals and international researchers and has presented internationally at leading medical technology conferences (NextMed/MMVR) on her clinical research into virtual reality and pre-operative anxiety. Anitra is also an active member of Women in Technology (WIT).

Recently, Anitra established Smartbots, a non-medical arm of Surgical Realities and distributor of robotic technologies. The Smartbots team of mechatronics and software engineers, tailor intelligent robotic solutions to meet the needs of industry and also work with schools to inspire the next generation to embrace careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
