R&D Tax Incentive

The R&D Tax Incentive encourages companies to engage in research and development (R&D) activities that progress a field of work. By providing a tax offset for eligible activities, the Australian government encourages companies to be innovative and progressive.

The R&D Tax Incentive in Australia has two core components:

  • a 45% refundable tax offset for certain eligible entities whose aggregated turnover is less than $20 million per year
  • a 40% non-refundable tax offset for all other eligible entities.

The government offers these generous incentives with an aim to boost competitiveness and productivity within the Australian economy.
